As an aspiring graphic designer, do I stick to a style or a variety?
I graduated in graphic design a year ago and since then were logos and websites making on and off. Throughout college, I tried not to classify myself in a certain style but I wanted to explore other methods and approaches, just to experience a point of view. But recently I have seen many well respected designers websites and the "it" people today and notice they all seem to have one style of design or color or anything, but their galleries does not vary, except for what is shown. I want to continue to make websites and logos, but pride myself on the formation of the product to the customer, so obviously not all have the same appearance. But if I took my digital art and put it on a table, no one could assume that it was really the same person. .... So is it good or bad? Anyone with experience can help greatly. I would not bother me to declare a certain look to myself (a brand of sorts), but not variety or bad?
Variety helps! It would be very refreshing for employers graphic design to have someone leaving college with work that does not appear related style - is very good. The sentence that design firms Graphical want to be able to label their creative talents to "They can track and provide a brief" - that nobody moves the university employment (decent) needs to display the ability to follow a brief. You were absolutely right not to classify as many students no. If the style that you can "play" is grunge and then, when a law firm or bank wants a refined and respectable corporate identity you are in trouble ... You may be picking up the "it" designers styles incorrectly, is it their own personal work that follows a certain style or work for clients? There is a big difference - to your personal taste and style have nothing to distract from the negligence or - you should have your personal taste and style - but do not let your own style creep into clients work if it is irrelevant -. Could you take a couple of links to these designers I would really take a look at a few.
