How many snowflakes for my horse?
My horse is about 850 pounds and I read in one of my magazines Horsey (annual horse) you must feed your horse 1% of your horses weight in forage and who will do them good. Thus, 1% of the weight of my horse is 8.5 pounds:) Does anyone know a good estimate of the number of flakes would it be?
In fact 1% of their body weight is fine if you also supply adequate amounts concentrates (sweet foods or food pellets). If you have hay alone, it is 2% of body weight of the horse. A horse should ideally be fed hay free choice at any time, but if you control the amount of hay that you use, your horse should be getting 17 pounds hay per day in winter add more than 2 pounds hay for each degree below 5 F. If you have a high content of alfalfa hay, or mix it with hay, or feeding 2 pounds less. Grass hay such as Timothy and bromine are preferred, because alfalfa contains too much protein for adult horses the most. As the number of flakes, it is impossible to say if you really weigh the flakes. Hay bales vary in size and weight, yet the same supplier, is preferable to weigh. If my fever is all the same supplier, I will break flakes and weigh at least 4 or 5 balls to get an estimate of what weighs each flake. I regularly use the weight scale for food, buy cheap at Walmart. They usually read up to £ 5. I leave the bowl on it and put a lid on top of large bowl. Be sure to adjust the reading to 0. Then I put on the snowflake the lid so it does not fall, and see what he weighs. I write the weight of each flake of each ball, and work on an average. Keep in mind the weight of the tank and the lid will reduce the amount you are able to weigh. I know that if a flake is reading 4.5 pounds, then the brightness is more than that, because reading the weight was adjusted to compensate for the bowl and lid. Normally, my flakes of hay weighs about 2-3 pounds each. So I know how many flakes in advance by the diet. I usually weigh a little more bullets intermittently throughout the winter to be sure it is the same and adjust if it is not. Finally, you have enough property to estimate how much a flake weighs only by the pick up. Good luck!
