is it legal to prorate my annual raise from the time I was last promoted instead of my full tenure?
Each year my job gives us an annual raise. The raise is a certain percentage increase from the last years' pay. The percentage of our raise is based off our tenure- the longer the tenure the higher the percentage. I have worked there four years, yet they only prorated my raise from the time I was promoted in August instead of my full tenure. I don't feel this is fair or legal.
What the hell are you complaining about?
Your raise is for current and future pay, not paying you more for time you spent with few responsiblites. Furthermore, you are never entitled to a raise, no matter what you think. It is a way for your company to reward you for your hard work and compensate you for additional responsiblities and knowledge (and to prevent you from leaving).
Quit whinning and be happy they pro-rated your salary to last August, rather than just saying the effective date was today and not give you another $1.
